These drive me crazy and I generally assume the lowest value but this seems a nice copy and I want to double check to be sure. Thanks to all

Thanks Russ and Sinclair. Unfortunatly not in my possesion so scan is borrowed. Sooner or later I'll find a good deal on one other than type V. |

Nitro, the right side ornaments are pretty complete so there is a possibility that it could be a Plate 5 Type Va (which is why sinclair was wanting a better scan). Although the ornaments are complete enough to possibly be Type Va there appears to be transfer scratches in the lower right. |

Nitrolures, Russ is correct, that is why I wanted a better image and was telling you that when I lost my electricity for the second time tonight.
Russ, their really are no side scratches on the E relief and that is what makes it one of the trickier reliefs. I think this stamp deserves a closer look. |

I will ask for a higher res scan. I see a 1a and a 111a but no Va listed . Where does the Va fit into the equation? |

what would the value difference be on the two varieties. The stamp is listed as unused no gum however not sure if gum stains or remnants of very light cancel , plus few perf issues. This would be for personal and price is low but if just type V I'm not sure . Thanks to all for looking a bit harder and I am waiting on better scan. |

razersedge, the drawings of the differences between the Type V and Va are generic. Both the Type V and Va were made from a 6 relief (A-F) transfer roll. Each of the reliefs are different with the Relief B, C and D in the Type V being easily identified due to heavy transfer scratches on the right. Plate 5 was entered with 142 position as Type Va from transfer roll 3. Transfer roll 4 produced the remaining 58 positions as Type V. Roll 4 was either a new roll or most likely a modification of roll 3. Transfer roll 4 was used for Plate 7, 8 and probably 9 and 10. The drawings above probably most closely resemble a Type V relief B and Type Va relief F. The distinctions can be quite subtle.
Nitro, the Type Va is valued at 2.5-3 times that of the Type V. |
