Nice item and quite an unusual topic for a slogan cancel. I guess back in 1914, things such as a "Corn Expo" warranted a special cancellation. I note that the US Post Office had to purchase these slogan cancels for a total cost of $38, which was probably quite a sum in 1913-14 especially when they would have only seen use for little more than 60 days and then discarded.

Thought you might be interested in this news article link for the event (zoom into 4th column):

wt, until 1913 the local postmasters were allowed to purchase special hand cancels and machine cancel dies and charge back to the POD. The POD took control of the approval and ordering to reduce the overall costs due to gross abuse.

Thaanks for the link. There isn't a lot of info on this event.

Interesting info. Do look back to the edit in my previous post where there is a link to a local newspaper support of the Expo.

Thanks, about the only thing I found was that that a $1000 prize was awarded for the best ear of corn. The winner was a 14 inch long ear that was displayed at the expo and was stolen. It was kind of a interesting side note.
