I got this stamps few weeks ago.It seems that the poor quality hinges are "melting" into the paper and becoming one ..... scary thing. From the gummed side you can see-thru the printed side any help is appreciated 'cause I really would love to save them.I have three whole sets in this condition.

That is not caused by hinges. These stamps were mounted with cellophane tape. Hydrogen peroxide has been known to remove the stains, though it can also remove some inks, so be careful.

I had a whole lot of stamps that were in a similar state.

I found that soaking in Zippo (or Ronson or similar hydrocarbon) lighter fluid a few times eventually leached out the rubber+oils from the sticky tape mounts. Then a wash in warm dilute detergent helped a bit more.

Altough this removes most of the stain some will retain the little translucent window. Perhaps more soaking would have got rid of it, but I did not want to chance complete loss of print...

:)

Be careful with the lighter fluid so you have a window open or a fan blowing it out the door or fresh air in. The fumes can build up.

I really like the knight on a horse with the sword. Is that Latvia or Lithuania and what year please? So I can search for one (or more)

Hinges will never result in this damage.

A hinge is merely a piece of glassine paper, treated on one side
with stamp gum or similar.
Glassine is paper that has been rolled really tightly under pressure

Yours, I would guess is double sided tape, the adhesive has leached into
the paper (Ugh!)
Some stamps have been adhered to display packaging
by reasonably moder latex style material.
These stamps eventually also show staining such as yours.

Kmncd if it helps, this stamp was cleaned in Pharmaceutical Spirits with a fine brush for 2 min' then rinsed in warm water containing a touch of dish washing liquid. Longer may achieve complete results.

I tried alcohol, but I found it to be much to a polar solvent to remove the non-polar sticky tape residues...but the fumes are much more pleasant :)...and if it doesn't work you can always add it to some orange juice :)

Thanks Finches for the advise.
I'll need to get my goggles on and wait for a breezy days here in Chicago area, cause otherwise with the temperatures reaching 100f for the next few days I might go up in flames with all my lighter fluids and 97% rubbing alcohol exposed to the heat.... me.... and some ac/dc :)))
