hello, I have some heavily franked stamps that i'd like to fade the postmarks on, is there any way I can wash them to do this, and what could I soak them in that wouldnt damage the stamp itself?

Sachilles, hello and a BIG warm welcome to SCF, it's good to see new members like yourself joining daily.
Sorry, I'm unable to help you with your question but some of the Seniors may.

Your question is a little hard to answer.
Some people could use the information for what is not good.
A lot of people would have a problem with anyone doing this.
I am sure you have a lot more questions that
will be a bit easier to answer.

Always Happy Stamping. John.

Welcome and I agree with KGV but even more so usually the ink on the stamp would perish before the cancel anyhow, nomatter what ou tried to do. Not a good practice anyway. We'd still like to see the stamp though. Pics or scans welcome! Sorry I wasn;t much help but stick around and you'll certainly have fun! -Jay

hello , thanks for the warm welcomes, its not 1 stamp in particular, I like stamps with faint cancels so that the cancel doesnt hide detail on the stamp itself, I dont want to remove the cancel altogether just fade it a bit. maybe i'm barking up the wrong tree, of course the ink on the stamp would be under attack also.

I too like to see the stamps detail through the cancel.

In my collection I keep heavily cancelled stamps as space fillers and when I get a better example I replace the space filler.

What stamps do you like to collect sachilles?
Do you get much time to work on your stamps? John.

To answer your question, no there is no way I am aware of
Generally speaking, with most stamps there are gazillions
of each issue, so be patient and await a better copy.

Eventually, hopefully you will get to a point where
you will appreciate the postmark for the information
it offers, and even begin to collect them.

When you alter a stamp in such a fashion, you sully
its reputation, and inheritors of your collection
in the future will not benefit because such
work is always detectable. I was looking at an early
US issue this morning at a Siegel Auction that looked mint to me,
but UV had detected stamp cleaning.

Not a good place to go.
