I'm no longer a FDC collector and have sent the last of my FDCs to a young man that is interested in stamp collecting (Thanks Barb).
However, reading the thread about Mark Twain reminded me that I used to collect 1st edition books and I have a 1st edition of the complete set of all the Mark Twain books issued in the late 1800s. In them are many drawings of both Twain & his characters. Has anyone ever thought about using a drawing from an old book as a cachet on a FDC? When I get back home I'll see about posting some pictures of those drawings. If I remember correctly, they were pretty neat.

Wow! That sounds like a wonderful collection of books. I am sure someone has used drawings at some point. In this digital age, many images are on the internet and some are borrowed for cachets.
on the thread I posted about Peter Stuyvesant, the FCD cachet is from an old drawing and that dates from 1948 and I also have a FDC Cachet of Fort Kearney which is taken from an old woodcut, from C.M.Clark's " A Trip to Pikes Peak." Also the Cachet on the FDC for Centennial of the American Turners Society has a cachet From "History of Physical Education" by Fred E Leonard MD. So I would say there would be lots about. Hi Stamperdude I just found another The Centenary of The American Poultry Industry 1948 shows a woodcut "Scene at the BNew York Poultry Show of 1898 held at Madison Square Garden. And the Famous American Authors Cachet shows Joel Chandler Harris and characters from the Uncle Remus Stories. I love the way persons on this forum make suggestions and it sets you off to see if you can find any. Regards, Horamakhet
