These stamps came in a mystery package. Can someone tell me if the information that they provided is correct and what the current value may be. And what the years are. Thanks The first one is from Baden, Cat no. LJ2 MNH OG, $4.00 The second one is from Bavaria, Cat no. 28 used $12.50. And the third is again from Bavaria, Cat no.44 used, $4.50.

Michel specialised catalogue (2003) numbers and values are, in order:
Mi. Nr. 2 (1862)
Value depends if it's on thin or thick paper (5 compared to 300 Euros)
Mi. Nr. 29 (1873)
Value depends on the kind of paper it's on and the watermark. Used CV for the cheapest variety is 16 Euros.
Mi. Nr. 42 (1876)
Used CV is 6 Euros.

Actually, if it's a forgery, it could be worth more than the genuine article!
Some of these early forgeries are quite collectable. |

Some of these early forgeries are quite collectable. Very True! However, this one falls into the very common catagory. |

revstampman,
How can you tell that its a forgery so quick. I'm sure there must be a website devoted to this topic. Are the other two also forgeries?
So I should just keep it and start a new topical on forgeries and start with this one. |

The key to this issue is the leaves that point to the "3" & the decorative boarder. Yes, their are websites about Forgeries. However, most don't give a lot of details. They want you to subscribe or but a book. Finding a decent one for what you are looking for can be a challange! Many are also not in English. Most of those do not show up in English search engines. |

raywrio, if you're interested in the subject of 19th century forgeries, quite a lot of information is available online in English. One way to find some of it is to do a search for the name of a leading forger of German stamps, Sperati. I recently sold a Sperati forgery of an Oldenburg stamp on ebay for $25 or so - many Sperati forgeries sell for considerably more. |

I forgot to add this one to the list. Is this one also a forgery? And is that Von Bismarck in the wreath? |
