These very flimsy stamps(?) were given to me around 1950 by my grandfather who said he got them out of an album many years prior. I put them in a glassine envelope where they have been ever since. I cannot find anything like them. Are they stamps? Some state "Droit De Marche" which means "right to walk" so I am thinking they may be some type of "pass" used by French Foreign Legion in different middle east countries. Tabs in bottom row - right have Beirut (Lebanon) and Constantinopel (Turkey - notice last two letters are "e" followed by "l". Item in row 5, right edge appears to be a postage stamp.
Any leads would be appreciated!

The three in the lower right corner are registered letter labels.
Just guessing, there might also be one or two newspaper stamps, upper right, one says du Journal Al M.... Bayrouth. Lebanese possibly.
Many an expert here will be more enlightening than me.
Welcome.

Check out this other thread regarding register labels. Interesting stuff.

I think you are right on, jamesw. These look exactly like those in the registered label thread.

The stamps in the top row (and some below) are Constantinople Weighing Fees stamps.

The larger stamps in the bottom three rows with "droit de marché" are Constantinople market fee stamps.

Is there any chance of posting bigger scans?

The registration labels at the bottom appear to be from the Austrian post office in Constantinople.

Thanks ncbuckeye,

It would be really useful to see larger scans of all of them to identify them more easily and give Rod the details he's looking for!

Rodney's two are the first two Turkish revenue stamps for newspapers and advertisements.

The blue one that the budgie has nibbled is from 1875. The light blue and light red one is from 1884. Both have a face value of two paras.

The stamps was typically applied to the paper before printing so you get these interesting "overprints".

Hello Rodney,

I use "Revenues of Ottoman Empire and Republic of Turkey" by William T. McDonald (1998).

Here are individual images, images 1-8. I will upload as I can. I have placed a number in the lower left corner of each for easier reference. In an earlier reply, rod222 referenced 4 of the images in the original post. I have indicated those 4 images on the bottom right of the appropriate image.
