Posted this in World class stamps, maybe I can find some help here:

Looking for some help with some stamps I have from my father. Found a bag of stamps with a letter dated 09/04/1954. From someone in Peru, forwarded 7000 Peruvian stamps and 500 of other nationalities, esp Spain. Stamps are wrapped in masking tape (Yikes! I know) in what looks like 100 stamp bundles. I have no idea what they are or what to do with them! Apparently, they must have been worth some value because they wanted money forwarded to a Peruvian bank. I was looking for some advice and was hoping someone could guide me along!
Thanks in advance and looking forward to your help!

You don't mention if you're a stamp collector or not, so I'm going to give you complete instructions.

1. Carefully remove the masking tape.
2. Find the Scott catalog volume that covers Peru and/or Spain.
3. Find the Scott catalog listing for each stamp. Note the catalog value. (Note: catalog value is the selling price that a dealer would sell it to you for, it's not the value you would receive from either a collector or dealer.)
4. You can come back and tell us what you have found.

If you'd like us to take a look at your stamps then use a scanner and post some pictures here. We'll be able to tell you if what you have is valuable or not.

Mary-Jane,Thanks for your quick reply! No I am not a stamp collector so this is overwhelming to me, they have been floating aroung my house for years! I might have a scanner, not sure! Can you tell that I am not a big computer user! Might be worth investing in the Scott Catalog though! The stamps are in good condition, with beautiful artwork on some. I can see why you can get hooked on stamp collecting! If I find a scanner, I will post here! Thanks again for your help.

HKemme, glad to have you starting to post here. Another advantage to showing some pictures is that you might generate some interest in selling or trading what you have once you have 50 posts (which happens very quickly). Good luck and I hope you find that scanner. - Jeff

For a quick assessment, you could take them to the local stamp club meeting for their opinion. Of course you can also use this wonderful virtual stamp community too!

Thank you for your wonderful replies. Seems like I found a friendly community of stamp collectors! Would love to show you some of my stamps, they are quite lovely! When husband or daughter comes home, will ask about the scanner, hopefully one of us will be able to figure it out! Would love to let someone who appreciates them take a look! Like I said, my dad passed away over 26 years ago, so I will probably never know where he got them from and why!

I've used 600 dpi with great success for individual stamps.

We're all anxious to see what you have!
