OK, I'm still trying for a Scott #10 & 10a. Its hard to tell sometimes on ebay and I got them both real cheap < $8.00 so what are they? Scott 10s or 11s? Art My scanner keeps reseting back to 300 dpi, I rescanned to 2400 dpi.

Art, the scans are pretty bad but I will comment some. The left stamp is a #11 likely from Plate 6, 7, or 8 and not 4. It is a C relief, "gash on shoulder" stamp from the top row of the plate. The second stamp may be a little closer in color but it does not look like a 10A to me. You really need to post better images, there is a lot to these stamps and poor images don't do them any justice.... |

Is the gash on shoulder the heavier line at the top of the toga button? |

Art, I definitely don't think that second stamp is a #10A. The first stamp is still what I said it was.
Rohumpy, Yes that is the gash, which is a little weak on this stamp. All type I, #11 stamps from the top row of Plates 4, 6, 7, and 8 are C relief, gash on shoulder stamps. There are a few locations within the bodies of these plates that the C relief was also used but the top framelines of these stamps will be recut. |

I understand your frustration, Art. Scroll back a few months and I was asking the same questions. And then I bought the stamp shown below specifically because it had a cert. It was a few pennies (hrrmm) more than eight bucks, but worth it to me to get the real deal. And once I saw it in person next to my 11s and 25s and 26s, I was like, oh, so that's what it is. |

Otto, just a gorgeous stamp. I agree with you that once you get a true 10, and place it next to the others, it becomes pretty obvious. Not totally if you can believe the Scott Specialized, since there is an overlap of at least one shade. My 10 is on cover, dated, and the date leaves no doubt about the stamp's shade, since the date is before the "reds" were issued. |

Otto,
I may have to do the same thing. My problem is that I enjoy the hunt too much and I'm still hunting. BTW, a great looking stamp.
