Hi,

I was wondering if the following 1898 cancel was just a simple duplex cancel as it appears.

This 1899 one is different, and I can't make out if the killer was just poorly applied or a strange shape. Does the P stand for the Postal Station in NY that this was cancelled/handled at?

This was supposed to be sent by Airmail in 1941, but was missent. It is unfortunate that I only have the piece and not the full cover. It strikes me as oddthat an "Air Mail Field" CDS would have an RMS (Railway Mail Service) killer to go with it.

Smauggie, The 1st one I believe you are correct.

The 'P' is a station which one I don't know but 'H' was Grand Central Station!

'RMS' could be "Rural Mail Service" which would make more sense.

Cheyenne was a airmail hub with routes south to El Paso, south west to Los Angeles, north west to Seattle, and east to everywhere. Most of these hubs were also RMS centers to move the mail to areas without air service. Cheyenne was also a Union Pacific rail hub. RMS was commonly used with airmail.
I have a list of most of the New York stations somewhere and will try to confirm but I seem to remember that Station P was Radio City (but my memory is not always what it used to be).

New York Station P was located at the Produce Exchange Building. In fact, it was one of the first test sites for Pneumatic Mail.

Great information. Just to round out my education - are the first two images from postal cards and if so are they the US Scott UX14 large wreath 1 cent Jefferson cards?

Correct. Both postal cards are UX14's.
