i am trying to figure out how to sell stamps that collectors need but are too low value for dealers to bother with..i could post them on wensy.com I am talking about stamps that I might charge 7 cents to 30 cents apiece for..i am wondering if an approval service might work with the cost of postage and all ? Anyone have this situation ?

Hi philb How about submitting them to the APS circuits From the circuits I have seen the stamps are relatively inexpensive. In lieu of the APS you could create you own "circuit" books and advertise in Linn's and/or the APS journal, or here. Approval service is risky but the fact that stamp collectors, in general, are honest there should be minimal problems. Jerry B |

Hi Jerry, I tried the APS books years ago..by the time I paid shipping both ways, insurance and commission to the APS...i probably came up short..i did sell a couple of higher priced items..that worked..but sending out a book with $60 to 80 dollars worth of sets and singles did not pay !! |

Hi philb
The cost is one reason I do not buy from the APS store. By the time I add in all the fees I am spending more than the stamp is worth.
How about the second suggestion about doing your own thing?

Stick them on the Stamps I want to sell forum here. Steve has a post like that. it makes a great shopping list page for those of us who need a couple here, a couple there etc... I picked up a dozen of Steve's stamps off that list. It is a great way to both sell and buy lower value stamps I think. |

Dave, its a small group to sell to here...i would need someone to buy quite a few of my 10 cent listings to justify the shipping..when I try selling like 50 good foreign stamps for 2 dollars..that does not seem to work for some reason...i they wanted one or two it would still cost 44 cents to ship ....sigh...i always look for a good trading partner who is about at the same level I am in worldwide collecting...it aint easy ! |

philb: You can try this if you wish: make your own approval books and take them to you local stamp club. I did this when I lived in Maryland and was a member of the Bowie Stamp Club. It worked pretty well. The "approval books" were just a template sheet with the stamps affixed via half a glassine hinge for easy removal and all the pages were housed in a standard 3-ring binder.
Also, if you prefer flat pricing rates use manila stocksheets in a 3-ring binder and make a note - all stamps on this pages or pages are x price. Unless your stamp club has something against this, it's a pretty easy way to sell them and your fellow collectors will enjoy it.
Oddly enough, I sell cheap stamps online and have been doing so for awhile and people will pay the shipping for a 5 or 10 cent stamp believe it or not. It's still cheaper to pay the postage than the gas prices and we all know some "cheap" stamps are not easy to find. Will |

Phil,
Why don't you list the number and price you want then sell them here? Kinda like a Chinese auction, no offence. If someone wants items 16, 32, 24, 39 etc, and they are the 1st to claim it, they get it plus the actual postage cost.

I don't mind a buck to a buck 50 for shipping if I find a batch of stamps where I can buy a few stamps. Like Will suggests, some depending on where you live are hard to get at a reasonable price. A batch of 10 20c to a buck stamps is more than enough for me to justify the shipping from Canada/US. What Art suggests, is exactly what I have in mind. I'm still trying to fill spaces in my US stuff at reasonable costs.

Battlestamps...i hate to say it but my stampclub members are so jaded or spoiled..they don't even buy from the APS circuit books because we have members that bring in excellent material for auction at 20 percent of catalog..and most of it goes for 20 percent without a second bidder....i think Art may be on to something...list a bunch of catalog numbers (if the members know the catalog number) from a certain country and let them pick...i dont think SCF is the place to list 50 separate low value stamps ...the only thing is if I list a bunch of catalog numbers they are not going to get pictures..they will have to know what the stamp looks like ! |

Wait a minute Mac, if you remember you were also from up North ! When I think back I didn't have bad duty in the service...the Mississippi gulf coast and New Orleans..back when things were inexpensive..crab cakes dinner on the waterfront for 99 cents...and then 22 months in Southern Italy where the currency exchange was a crime...i couldnt spend my $144.00 a month hard as I tried to drink it up !! I was lucky to be in the niche between Korea and Viet Nam..some of guys I know had to earn their money !! |

Phil, know just how it is. I think the worst part is we have plenty to give but it is so much trouble to list em. Coming close to another desk clearing for sure. For the service I always had a chuckle with my stations. Most all of my training was mountain warfare or -20 to -30 below cold weather training. Never needed it as all my actions were either hot, hot, hot, jungle or desert warfare. Go figure! Always wanted to see Italy though, must have been nice. |

Mac. it was an extremely poor area of Southern Italy..i was at a missle site aimed at Bulgaria ...one Bulgarian pilot actually crash landed in an olive grove since there was a $ 50,000 bounty for anyone who brought a MIG over..the communist party was very strong among the poor..not quite the Russian variety..they took our money in the bars and pizza joints !! |
