I believe used stamps are quite collectible, and actively collect only used when it comes to US.

Of course, for those with stratospheric pricing in any state, I intend to make facsimiles.

Randy,

My collection started out with nearly all used stamps. Over the years I have "upgraded" many to MLH then to MNH. IMO, a collection is something that grows, it evolves. Just have fun with it, there are no rules, no "correct" way, its your collection, do it your way.

MLH = Mint LIGHTLY Hinged. Depending on the stamp, the difference in price can be enormous and for a general (non-investment) collector, the fact of the matter is the stamp looks good on its face (and who looks at the back of the stamp much, anyway).

Most collectors would be interested in nice, clean, well-centered stamps and if you can find one MLH at a fraction of the cost of MNH, many would go for that as a more economical option.

It's entirely up to you. I collect MNH from 1900 on, but there are some stamps that are financially prohibitive, given that there are still lots of things I want and can't afford them all at the same time. For some, I've bought used copies, but for the majority, I simply leave them empty until I get the ones I want. I usually don't bother spending money on something I'm not going to keep.
