Thought this might be an interesting topic. The US has proposed many stamp designs that never made it to final production for various reasons.

I just stumbled across this image on the web. It would have made a nice stamp in it's day but alas, the First World War prohibited it from being issued:

Thanks for the link. Some of the rejected essays were remarkable. My all time favorite was the National Bank Note liberty
rainbows. Very colorful for 1867.
