Has anyone followed this ebay auction? It just goes to prove that errors do occasionally get found ... even after 40 years!

This makes me wonder if there were others which the user thought was the original (not revalued) and added additional postage to the front and mailed it.

Does it seem odd that the seller states that the certificate of Authenticity will be sent with the envelope. Why not show it in the listing ???

There was a certificate pictured, but I'm not familiar with the expert. I'm also not very comfortable with the user calling himself "American_Philatelic_Society". Is that not a registered trademark?

If the seller is the APS, then why isn't the certificate from the APS?!?

Perhaps you're right.

Nevertheless I emailed the question to the APS. I'll post their response when/if I get it.

William "Bill" Lehr (DBA JOBI Philatelic Services) is a specialist in US postal stationery. He is also the author of DOZENS of articles on Postal Stationary. I think it is just a case of the right man for the job.

I received a reply from the APS this morning. Here it is:

Quote:
Yes, the American Philatelic Society does list items on ebay to sell. The reason the certificate is not from us is because we wanted to use an expertizing service that specialized in postal history items.

Thank You,

Kelley Binkley
