Hey all!
With a week to go I simply can not believe the superior quality of the entries and the out pouring of the emotions that have gone into them. In my wildest dreams I would never have predicted this type of response.
All this being said, we still need more seconds. As it stands we have russ with his Sc# 290 and jamnesw with is Sc# 717 leading the pack with one second each.
Come on gang please start drumming up support from the other forum boards that you visit and let them know what is going no here.
Ron

I think this thread deserves a little bump!
There must me some other ideas out there, especially from across the ocean somewhere! Anybody?

Well, if it weren't for this event, we may all be collecting stamps of queens (no offense to our friends across the lake)

It is amazing to me. Until I really looked at the image posted by Mike33, I had never noticed the date 1776 on the 24 cent stamp of 1869. I suppose that a case could be made for it being at the least a remembrance of the 1776 event, if not a true commemorative.

No offense taken Mike. I think Freddie Mercury deserves to be on a stamp!

Taking a closer look at the 1869 24center is that Ben Franklin in the crowd, left hand side pretty well tallest bald head or is he stnading at the table? Amazing the detail engraved into such a small area. Have to admit once the US made up its collective minds there was no surrender and I don't think the british knew what hit them.

(only cause I saw that Otto had two) <edit>

Dr. Benjamin Franklin (January 17, 1706 [O.S. January 6, 1705[1]] – April 17, 1790) was one of the Founding Fathers of the United States. A noted polymath, Franklin was a leading author, printer, political theorist, politician, postmaster, scientist, musician, inventor, satirist, civic activist, statesman, and diplomat.

Franklin earned the title of "The First American" for his early and indefatigable campaigning for colonial unity; as an author and spokesman in London for several colonies, then as the first United States Ambassador to France, he exemplified the emerging American nation.

Franklin was foundational in defining the American ethos as a marriage of the practical and democratic values of thrift, hard work, education, community spirit, self-governing institutions, and opposition to authoritarianism both political and religious, with the scientific and tolerant values of the Enlightenment.

Franklin became a national hero in America when he spearheaded the effort to have Parliament repeal the unpopular Stamp Act. For many years he was the British postmaster for the colonies, which enabled him to set up the first national communications network. He was active in community affairs, colonial and state politics, as well as national and international affairs. From 1785 to 1788, he served as governor of Pennsylvania. Toward the end of his life, he freed his slaves and became one of the most prominent abolitionists.

As I count, at this time we have three entries with one second each, russ with his Sc# 290, jamnesw with his Sc# 717, and the ever faithful nitrolures with his Sc #291.
I would ask a favor from all that view this contest, please review and double check me. It would be just awful to miss somebody.
Thanks
Ron

OK!
With this second of ILS's Sc #121 we now have four contenders. russ with his Sc# 290, jamnesw with his Sc# 717, and nitrolures with his Sc #291.
As a personal note I was hoping someone would second the 121 though I can't imagine why.

I think Russ's was a 290 actually, not that any of them won't be tough to beat.
