I tried to find the old Mysteries Thread and I guess I just didn't look in the right place, but I couldn't find it, so I thought I would restart it. For all the newer members this is a place where you can post your unknowns or any other oddities you want to find out information on. I found a small box of stamps that I acquired about 3 years ago and then got thrown into another box and forgot about. I found several "mystery stamps" in it. So here is the first one.I can't tell much about it other then it is VERY light blue, has no value on it, and a postmark dated 09-01-99. Any help will be greatly appreciated.

Does this help? Israel? Hope it is modern 1999 rather than 1899, as I have an excuse of classic collector Top looks like a key into a lock to me. Jim |

Bryan, it does look like it was washed but that is the actual color, it's a VERY VERY light blue. The actual stamp is almost as faint as the scan there. Well if no one can figure anything out then it will go into my "What the Heck is it??" collection. |

Here are my next two mysteries. I know the one on the left is a GB issue but am puzzled at what the star w/ hand and the crown are for. The red one on the right is another that completely escapes any idea of identification for me. Any help is as always greatly appreciated. |

Hello Richard......
The star & hand symbol indicates one of the British Regional Machin issues, this one is British Northern Ireland...#NIMH11....45 cents. Which is why it has a Belfast cancel. Others are a standing Heraldic Lion = Scotland.....and a Dragon = Wales & Monmouthshire.
The other is a Norway Official, #O61...20 cents.

The red one is Norway Offentlig sak (official stamp) ~~ newer than 1940. The green one is Northern Ireland. Again too modern for my catalogs Jim |

Gigi the top one is a Netherlands 3 cent stamp that has been revalued to 7 1/2 cents. I have several of this in different values I will scan and post this evening. As for the second one I'm not sure maybe some else can tell more then this but to It appears to be a war savings stamp. Hope this helped out. |

That war savings stamp probably was canceled with "Remember, only you can help prevent forest fires"

The 10¢ War Savings Stamp was inadvertantly (or purposefully) used as postage in the 1950's, and was hit with the "Only you Can Prevent Forest Fires" slogan cancel.
