Is it just me or are the killer bars on this cancel extra thick?

Or perhaps just heavily inked?

Thanks for looking.

Edit: Just noticed the time on this one. Someone was burning the midnight oil.

The was from a Model K8A in use from 1914-1918. Columbia cancels after 1919 are very uncommon. I have seen a lot of variance in the quality of the Columbia cancels especially on the later uses. Most of the Columbia cancels from smaller towns were from machine removed from larger cities and transfered to the smaller PO. I suspect that this is a combination of both machine wear and die wear.
I have several Columbia cancels that are missing large amounts of the killer bars and were the city dila is almost unreadable.

Modern cancellation devices typically have six lines to cancel the stamp; this one has eight. I guess they didn't want to risk failing to cancel a 1-cent stamp!

And here I thought this question was a bit on the trivial side, and one response from Russ and I feel quite well educated.
