Just a little poll to see what people here collect.

I collect both, but they don't necessarily have to be expensive items to decide whether to collect mint versus used.

In fact, with the USPS financial situation blamed on significant reduction of mail volume in recent years, and with the majority of individuals and businesses resorting to metered mail or labels produced by their own printers, the modern cover with a stamp affixed to it and tied by a cancellation (even a spray-on cancellation) may indeed become the collectible of the future, as fewer and fewer are being used today then there were 20, 30 or 50 years ago.

Both but I prefer used, and will replace a mint 'placeholder' if I can get a good used example

I collect both, when I place a stamp in my album I like to have both used and mint side by side.

And I thought mint was the way to go. But after wt1's comment, makes me have second thoughts if I am the wrong kind.

Maiden - What is a "good used" stamp?

I collect stamps 1st, just be aware of what is better used or mint.
However, a used stamp has greater possibilities! The cancellation adds a whole new dimension to collecting!
Plus, when was the last time you saw a mint stamp on a cover!

For some countries, I only collect used stamps but there are four countries that I collect both mint (only MNH after WWII) and used.

The last time I mailed something?

For US stamps, I only collect used. For the rest of the world, I will take what I can get.

What about CTOs? They're kind of a gray area aren't they? Mint in the aspect that most of them still have gum and haven't been circulated in the post.
Used in the aspect that as their name suggests, they are indeed cancelled.
