I have stated in my introduction I have only been collecting stamps for two weeks. Have lots to learn. I know there are a volume set of books for world stamps. I cant see putting out $250.00 dollars yet on this project. Does anyone know where there is a good world online site for looking up world stamps? I have done a pretty good search and fine it is really hard to locate one site that has all world stamps on it.
Thanks Big Ed

Hi again Ed
Probably the best thing for you to do right now is to check out your local library. Most will have fairly recent editions of stamp catalogues, probably Scotts, that you can just borrow.
The new ones are expensive, but sometimes you'll be lucky and find some used ones for sale cheap. The prices may not be current, depending on how old they are, but the stamp information will still be the same.
I know some folks like the digital thing, but let's face it, not everything on the interweb is free, and sometimes it's just plain quicker to turn a page than type in a url.
And in regards to your statement on another one if your posts, don't stop asking questions. You say you are only learning, and that's how you do it. We're all students.

totally! No matter how long we all have been collecting we are always learning. I believe that's half the fun of it! Definitely keep asking questions as that how you learn!
If I haven't said so as of yet then aboard!

Big Ed, many collectors simply buy older catalogs as they are more than adequate for a collector. Since I'm not a dealer I really don't need up to the minute pricing and my Scott Catalogs are 2009 and I'll use them for at least another year or 2. If you collect US then I'd look for a 2007-2010 Scott's Specialized, or if you're a worldwide collector perhaps an older Stamps of the World by Stanley Gibbons. Most librarys sell their catalogs every year since they keep up to date copies. If you look on the auction site you can usually find these catalogs for 10-20$.

Amazon has a large selection of used catalogs. I put together the 2009 set of Scott for about $9.00 a volume except for the volume 1 which was more. I suspect the volume 1 is more because the damand is greater since it contains the United States listings (plus countries beginning with the letters A & B)
