Dan, Very well done! I personally have to take exception to 1 point however. You have no mention of back dated stamps. I do not know weather this was intentional or not. I know this is an exception to the rule and is a very rare occurance. I do also realize that this could complicate the subject, especially for newer Revenue collectors. However, I do think it should be noted. Otherwise a fantastic job once again! I give it |

Actually, I had thought of it, especially in light of Richard's commentary, but thought it might muddy the waters too much, especially for the novice collector. Maybe I'll put something in anyway. |

Quote: Maybe I'll put something in anyway. As a sugestion I would think something to the effect of the following would be appropreate. "While uncommon their are silk stamps known that were back dated. However, this was not the norm and are quite uncommon if not rare occurances." |

Reload the page. I emphasized one of Richard's sentences and added a paragraph of explanation. |

I like the layout, Site bookmarked! Great resource for identification needs. Are the 2nd and 3rd to follow ? |

Quote: Are the 2nd and 3rd to follow ? I'm not sure what you're asking. All stamps of the 2nd and 3rd issues were on the paper shown at the upper right on the page. There is no need (or way) to differentiate silk versus nonsilk on those issues. |

I just started going through the list of holes that I still need to fill in my 1st issue silk papers, and went about checking Eric & Richard's inventories, the APS store, ebay, SAN... nada. These things are a pain. Even the auction archive searches at SAN and Siegel show virtually nada. The problem is that they're not expensive enough in Scott to normally justify auction lotting as single stamps, yet are actually more scarce than their catalog values would indicate compared to most postal issues, so nobody's got 'em. Grr... If anyone has duplicates, I'm still looking for the following: R1d R26d R35d R42d R45d R52d R54de R59d R80d Gracias. |

Great link...thanks! I'm pretty much a newbie - so this sort of thing is exactly what I needed.
I dug through my later cancellations and found a few silk. I also figured out that my rare R42d is just a R42c with a piece of red fuzz stuck to the back. Oh well.

As previously posted on a different topic - love the info on the web site. I noticed that Dan replyed on a different topic that silk can have red threads "rarely". No mention on the web site.

What is the best method for Revenue pieces still attached to Documents ? I've tried to look at the margins hoping to find the elusive Blue Thread but haven't had much luck. |

Other than either using a microscope or lifting the stamps (a practice that I abhor), I don't know how you would go about it.
I've not personally had the need to determine silk papers on document thus far. I know that some people specialize in on-document usages. My acquisition of documents has been primarily based on cancel or being a recognizable variety, not on being a silk paper. |
