Hello Forum, friend of mine told me that he found Blue Mauritius stamp in collection of his grandpa, they come from Russia and he told me that his grand-grand-grand?-pa worked for russian tsar and stole from castle "some things" during revolt, but didn´t tell him what they took. I don´t trust to him, because he is very good in storytelling and jokes , but he send me images so I share it with you. Thank you for opinions.

What you have looks most like what I would imagine a Scott Catalog 4c Maritius stamp would be. That does not mean that it is indeed that stamp, just an observation based on a description in a catalog.
The stamp itself seems rather worse for wear which would reduce collector interest.

Looks like a PS cutout to me? That sure would be nice though if it was the real thing wouldn't it?

Not to mention what appears to be a heavily repaired one at that. The Bondo and spackle job appears to be hiding a significant thin on the front upper center and a repaired tear in the upper right hand corner. Whatever value it did have, will be negated by the condition. |

Something is off. The surface looks too smooth and shiny for an engraved stamp. |

Gibbons doesn't price the 2d mint, but it gives a price of £1.2 million for used. It says that twelve copies of the 2d (including four unused) have survived. 'Most are now in permanent collections.' And if you believe this stamp is genuine, then believing in Father Christmas should be a pushover |

First things first -Welcome to the forum! Second thing is -although I hate to be a nay-sayer but I believe this to be a forgery at best. I would have to agree that the surface looks way to shiny to be an engraved stamp. Now don't just give up completely as stranger things have happened and it could just be a naive conservation attempt like maybe a piece scotch tape over the front or what have you, but like you said, your friend seems to have "the gift of gab"- "spinning a yarn", if you will...If you really want to be 100% certain on what you actually have then send it out to be certified. That will be the "end all - be all"; the final say, if you will. I'm actually rooting for you because, I mean heck! who stumbles upon a 1 Million dollar stamp now days! I wish you all the luck. Stick around we'll have fun. -Jay |
