Okay... I thought this title would get your attention. I joined another club... The Mourning Stamps and Covers Club. I have an interest in mourning covers and the history and traditions associated with funerals. Morbid, eh? It looks interesting, and it's something I could make a neat exhibit out of!

I don't remember who it was, but about a month ago one of our family showed a number of German "death cards" on the site. They were basically announcements and memorials of soldiers killed during WWII. They would probably fit right into your morbid collection. |

You think thats morbid. The desk where I sort stamps used to be the spot where they used to put the casket when my house was a funeral home! |

Do you hear voices in the night Ziggy? I'm not supersticious, but I'm not sure I could live in a funeral home either! |

Ziggy let me know if you ever move out I want to move in. I grew up around funeral homes and would love to live in an old one. I would also like to see some of these mourning covers to see if what I have maybe a mourning cover. |

I just did a little bit of googling and found that I do in fact have a mourning cover. I can't remember if it was NR or Modern I got it from but is dated 1875 and was put in a post about wethere to soak or not. It is pretty rough in condition but now am very glad I do have it after learning abit more about it. Will scan and post in the next couple of days. |

It is only morbid if you don't show proper respect to those that have passed on. It could be a very honorable collection and may be close to your heart in more ways than one. |
