Baltimore, MD of course is Montgomery Wards type MW-5 used from January 1945-December, 1951 used 12 months during that time period!
Chicago, IL is a MW-3 that type was used between June 1951-July 1970 used 93 months during that time period. It looks like the top half of an L-52, making this a freak!
Sorry, but I don't think the Baltimore is MW-5. No serifs, control is much too long, 16.5 mm and letters too tall, 3 mml. It has the appearance of a handstamp, slightly sloped down to the right. There is evidence of another PC type on the left edge (PSS-212?) with a dated control also ending with a 3 mm 5, on the left edge.
The Chicago indecia measures 3 mm tall (ie. L-77). MW-3 is not listed on an L-52 or L-77.
Wil Bobbin, you have me at a disadvantage since you have the stamp & measurements were not available. The type shown in both cases are not listed in the "Handstamp" catalog. There is, I believe, a M.Wards specific checklist/catalog that may list overlooked or missed "Printed" or "Handstamped" types. My PSS T&T Catalog does not have a L-77 listed for Chicago and have nothing to compare it too.
Sorry about that warrehouse. I appreciate your input. Maybe you can answer a question for me. I have a sizable collection of SRC's that are not listed inthe dated printed cal. or as L types for the various cities. They don't appear to be hand stamps either. I suspect that they are typewritter applied controls I will post some of them soon.
