This #298 from the Pan American set is claimed to be unused and rg? (re-gummed??) OK, but a scan of the back looks to tell another story. It appears to me that it has indeed been used and the cancels washed of and re gummed to cover at least 1 thin I can see. I just wanted some people I trust to verify what I'm seeing or am I just being too nit picky. I actually don't think I would purposefully purchase a re-gummed stamp. What do you think about this? Thank you.

Very hard to tell if there was a cancel washed off. As far as the re-gum goes, I believe that since the gum appears to stop before the Perf tips that it is indeed a re-gum. Personally I'd hold out for the real deal but that's me. The seller is a reputable seller as far as I know, have you contacted him / her with your question ?

I'd agree with stallzer. It's hard to tell if that is a cancel or perhaps something transfered from some other stamp while it's been in storage for the last hundred years. I also thing there's something else happening at the top centre on the back. Hinge mark?
You've got a day (give or take). Send him a question. I think I've bought from this seller before, and had no problem. And hey, at least he admitted to it being regummed.

ILS, it's ok to be picky. You should always aim to get the best deal for you $$.

This stamp is clearly a regum. Stallzer accurately pointed out the reason for that assessment. As for the possibility of this stamp being used with a washed off cancel, it's tough to tell from a photo. The stamp definitely looks soiled (esp on the top) and does not appear faded, so it is unlikely to have been washed. My opinion is that it is likely unused.

I do not see any thins or other flaws that might detract from this stamp. If you were to bid on this, bid as if it were a good, used copy. This should sell for$25-30 even if used.

that is clearly ink residue from a postmark visible on the back.

this guy is known to sell "suspect" material... or mis-identified. I have noticed a number of cleaned stamps being sold as new from him in the past. I always tell him on ebay he just says "thanks" and continues on.
