Solid 72, SV. I've been frustrated with finding a well centered copy for a price I'm willing to pay. What did you give for it, if you don't mind my asking? |

Rileysan, I think I paid around 38.00 for the #72. All from same dealer.. I waited until the auction ended with no bids then contacted the guy.... He is pretty good, he sent me another stamp and it had a crease (not the 72), and he took it right back with no fuss. I am happy doing business with him.

Even with VG centering, that's a bargain for a sound stamp (assuming it's sound). Well done! |

SV, your US classic collection must be really coming along. I have watched your posts of acquisitions over the past several months. Congrats on excellent finds. |

Yes, I am. a number of pages are missing only 1 or 2 stamps to complete. except for the early Ben Franklin Issues. #5,6,8 and a few other early issue pages. My airmail collection is 1 stamp from total completion.. My confederate collection is 2 stamps short...
my Indo-China collection is 97 stamps short of completion (and that's is because I can't find what I am looking for) |

This is not to be contrary or disrespectful but my opinion is a little different than some of the respondents. If the total goal here is to fill up as many spaces in your album with the least costly specimens you can find, then I have no business passing judgement on these stamps because you get what you pay for. But if you think that you are making a sound investment in purchasing stamps of this quality, then I would have to disagree. Sometimes in everyone's attempt to be courteous, a spade is not called a spade. I always encourage collecting for the love of the material and the fun of the chase and never to consider it an investment figuring that any money made on such a collection as being a bonus, not the goal of the collection. When I look at these stamps, what I see are average/fine to barely fine copies, the 72 with a heavy cancel, off center and with a blunt perf in the lower right margin. I'm not surprised that there were no bidders. The 285, besides being off centered has a tone spot to the right of Marquettes head. Again, if you love these stamps----great. I'm glad they found a home. But to me they have the appearance of stamps that you would see in an accumulation or a dealers stock page. But hey, that's why they make chocolate and vanilla. It really is only important what you think of them. |

my goal is to acquire the best stamps that I can for the money. I do look at what stamps cost and what CV is for grade, and make my own valuations. I am not doing this for investment purposes but for fun. Which is why my album is not full of very expensive, perfectly centered pieces. I try to get the best bargain I can for a stamp. and I think 32.00 for the 72 is well what it is worth. I am not as picky as others who need perfect stamps. I don't have the budget for it. Other people comments are always welcome in here. You don't have to always agree. When I buy a stamp, I think to myself, IF I had to sell this, could I get my money back or close to it. Plus this collection I am building will be passed on to my (now) 14 month old son. So he can worry about it later.
