No Love For The Scott's # 212 ?

A while ago I tried to sell a MNH 212 on ebay. My 2 copies of this are faded and I understand that will decrease the value. It catalogs at over $300.00 and I tried to sell one of my copies for $50.00 Buy it now, no takers. So today while browsing around I checked completed listings on ebay and the highest price I found for a MNH 212 was around $25.00. I see many older stamps MNH now fetching around 50-60% of catalog value, so what gives with the 212 ? Ugliness ?

I wouldn't call it ugly, but it's certainly plain. My opinion is that $300 is far too high in Cat value for this stamp. I just see far too many of them. I have a MNH copy, but paid less than 10% of catalogue value.

Without a certificate, there is no way of being sure it is not cancel removed and regummed. On faded/lightened stamps the probability of removed cancels is higher.

I could swear there looks like the remains of a straight line cancel across the front of this.

Well I like it but then again I'm a bit partial to anything Ben Franklin!
