I've just started working on Czechoslovakia and recently won this semi-postal. I must say that I think it is the most attractive souvenir sheet that I have seen so far. I like it because it has just one stamp. It is simple in it's design. The eye doesn't get distracted trying to figure out which of many stamps to focus on. I wish the United States (my first focus and bulk of my collection) would put a little more effort into stamp design. It seems with each passing year they get even more mundane. Like the "Go Green" stamps of this year. Anyway, I was wondering what souvenir sheets are among your favorites?

Like you the focus of my collection is US (and Canada too). Have a couple of the older US sheets, but little else. Owned this one for a short time before I sold it (at a loss, poor timing) but thought it was pretty nice. Will admit to regretting selling it, but hey, there'll be others. |

James - I like that Egypt sheet. Too bad you had to part with it!
Bee - I, too, would love to come across a nice used copy of that Czech sheet. |

jayvin - are those stamps perforated as one's upside down and offset from a proper position on the sheet and most are offset as well. |

Jayvin - the detail in your sheet is just incredible. I don't think that I have ever seen one as ornate as that. |

Newbie question - why do you call it a semi-postal? So would all souvenir sheets be semi-postal? |

From the Ask Phil glossary of stamp terms http://www.collectorsclubchicago.org/b25.htm Quote: Semipostal: an additional monetary value, called a surcharge, devoted to a specific non-postal purpose such as the Red Cross; the surcharge has no postal validity and is usually separated from the official postal value with a "+" sign, aka Charity Stamps. Some countries at some times had an extra charge that would be paid to the post office clerk at the time of purchase that went towards the charity / cause but the stamp did not have the +xx extra denomination. |

Here is a better scan with the stamps in their correct place. No they are not perforated. This is mine, I took the other scan from an auction. I like all of the referances to the US and New Haven CT. |

I had to get this one. Quite a large sheet at 22 x 19 cm. That's a mint "classic album covers" self-adhesive version on the disc. |
