Hi everybody. I don't generally pay attention to perfins, but sometimes they sneak into the collection. Just noticed these two on some 1917-19 Franklins, and wondered if anyone could identify the initials.
The 9c is difficult to see because of a paper remnant, but it says CGL.
The 30c is JHR. Possibly a railway?

Note to all you purists out there, I did not pencil in the catalogue numbers. Really. Wasn't me.

I can't help with the first one, but as to the second example with the "JHR" perfin, it is identified as James H. Rhodes and Company, Chicago, Illinois (a chemical manufacturer). Listed as rarity factor "D". Quite common.

The CGL perfin is not associated with a known user - only the location is known, Hartford, CT. Rarity factor is D, perfin pattern is C139, in use from 1917-1930.

Boy! Someday I am going to find the time to look through my perfins, there is just too much to do. I am almost done combining my world books, and am looking forward to putting away some of the stuff that I have won, and then maybe getting back to my US and GB stamps.
