Kia Ora,I just thought I'd make a mention here of an idea I have seen elsewhere as it seems really popular. They are currently up to stamp chain letter #107 with 6 people per letter.
Could be 50 stamps or 100 stamps.
On/off paper or all off paper.
Minimum of 6 people. (A,B,C,D,E,F)
A does photo of stamps to be sent;posts to B,who removes stamps they like and replaces the same number of stamps, does photo;posts to C and so on until it reaches F who then returns the letter to A.
Once 6 people are interested in the first letter, it could begin and a second one could be started.
Any thoughts /ideas / comments from anyone welcome. It could work . I would be more than willing to start it off each time.

If it did start, each time I sent a letter out,I would include a mystery bonus of maybe 5 NZ stamps or some other mystery bonus for the first person. What stamps? If I told you that, then it wouldn't be a mystery.
I just sent a note to admin/staff to put them in the picture. It could work. Some ground rules could be set if need be. A photo would be posted each time of what was been offered so members could see.

Joeytoat, please don't be offended - I know other places that deviate from stamp topics, last count there - approx' 23 game/quiz topics. I honestly think they're a unnecessary distraction from our Hobby. All sorts of futile posts begin to aggravate serious Collectors, IMO.

Hi Finches, Fair comment? Anyone else? Maybe a comment from someone who has been around the forum since the early days and has 1000's of posts. It's not a quiz and it's certainly not a game. Maybe to kick it off,I'll put together 50 stamps and post a photo. If enough people (even 3 or 4)are interested they can let me know and I'll make up the list to send with the first letter. Don't let the sun set on what could be a good idea.

If it does start,I'll move it to the - contests, quizzes, and giveaways forum. It will be a giveaway of sorts as members take out and put in replacement stamps and pass on the letter to the next person in line. It would give members the chance to swap stamps at the cost of the postage to the next person.

One of the major pluses of this forum is that everyone's input is valued, no matter how many comments they have posted.

Maybe a link to a site offering this already would suffice for those who may be interested in such.

I, personally, do not feel that this is the proper forum to discuss chain letters (which in the U.S. are illegal, regardless of the content). Are you not just advocating the distribution of approval cards?

Joey:

I appreciate your enthusiasm and eagerness to add a little fun.

Just remember you're going to need 50 posts before you can start any buy/sell/trade activities here. But you're an active member already and you're well on your way to 50, so I know that will come soon.

Kirk

Hi,
ncbuckeye - I said to finches "fair comment"! I didn't want to say any more
Chain-letter aside, I could of used different words but thats what the other place calls it,so that's what I called it.
I don't think admin would appreciate me supplying a link here to another stamp forum. As I mentioned they are up to #107 x 6 thats 642 members (half of whom would live in USA) So if a chain letter is illegal, why do they call it a chain letter?
Approval card? I don't know where you are coming from with that because approval card it certainly isn't. I put 50 stamps in an envelope, mail it to B,who removes/replaces stamps and passes it on,etc.

Kirks,Thanks for your comment. If/when I reach 50 posts,I will start one by posting a photo of the 50 stamps on the contests, quizzes, and giveaways forum and call it "pass-it-on". Then let members decide if they want to take up my offer. The other place allows fewer posts/days but no sooner they start one,it fills up. Buy/sell/trade - I'm not buying, nor am I selling,so it would have to fall under "trade",although even then it's 50/50. I already have emails from interested people reading this forum who found my email elsewhere so I'll start one off the forum and when I reach 50 posts,I'll start one here.
Finches - sorry if I upset you with my "Fair comment" comment which was fair. I should of added to it.
I thought older members who have been around a while would of come such things and would of given me a few pointers or given me the thumbs down.
Cheers

Joeytoat,

Older member who has been around awhile speaking !
It's a good idea but it's not called a Chain Letter, it's called a Round Robin.
A Round Robin is not illegal in any country while a Chain letter maybe. I know it was frowned upon back in the sixties !
So get to your 50 posts and see what gives.
You must decide if you will do a Worldwide one or country specific. Even an area is good.
To make it worthwhile, I would send a minimum of 100 stamps and set out rules and regulations to avoid confusion.
If you need any help, I would be happy to assist although my collecting interests would not allow me to participate.

Good luck and call me at 50.

Londonbus1

P.S. I will not be available 16-30 December though.

Sounds like a round robin type of trading list, many postcard colletors use them. You have a list and person A sends to person B whom sends to person C and just continues until to comes back to person A. Which is exactly what you posted originally Joeytoat. I generally don't involve myself in them, but I wouldn't fault anyone else to do so. It could be especially helpful to beginners and world wide collectors.

Since the response to Finches "Fair comment?" ended in a question mark, I assumed, perhaps wrongly, that Finches reply was being questioned. I'm now thinking you meant a "!"

A Round Robin sounds like fun. The term "chain letter" has negative connotations.

The American Philatelic Society has Circuit Books which are somewhat different in that, if you take a stamp, you pay for it, and do not replace it.

Kia Ora Everyone,
Name - "Round Robin" it is. (Thanks Londonbus1)
# Stamps - 100
Type of Stamps - Mainly used off paper but maybe a couple of mint stamps & alternative stamps.
Will start #001 in - contests, quizzes, and giveaways forum as soon as I reach 50 posts.
To start,I'll do a worldwide one. If there's enough interest,I'll do countries. I know I have a lot of USA,UK,Ireland,Australia. (I'll list other countries later)
Each time I start one,I'll post a photo of the stamps I'll be sending out and a photo of the stamps as/when returned.

Questions -
1.Should the person passing on the stamps also post a photo? Yes/No.
2.Would stamps on paper be acceptable? Yes/No
3.What number of people should be on the list? 4/5/6
4.Once a person has been first on a round-robin,should they stand aside and let someone else be first on future round-robins? (They could still take part as B,C,D,E?)

Why am I doing this? I'm semi-retired,I have time on my hands,I have a lot of stamps and I keep buying more & more,(usually by the kilo) as I like sorting thru them. To me,they are like little windows of the world. a great way to travel without leaving the comfort of my armchair.
What do I get out of it? Enjoyment, friends, a surprise when the round robin gets returned to me. I live on a 10 acre block, house not much but the view -

as seen from the armchair where I sit while I'm typing this. (I'll get around to trimming the trees, one day)Whats your view from where you sit?
Badge 56 - Thanks for your 2 cents. It will be fun and anyone is welcome to jump on board for the ride. Like the london bus - you can climb on & off at will.
Londonbus1 - Many thanks.Do I owe you anything for the fare/advice? It is very much appreciated as it has me facing in the right direction now. The other side called it a chain letter and I thought I'd call it the same thing, but round-robin,it will be.
Stamperdude,Thanks for your comments. I have some postcards from the 1940/50's.
ncbuckeye - A slight misunderstand on my part. Been a two-finger typist doesn't help, but I blame the little man in my computer.
Smauggie - Many thanks for your comments.Circuit books are okay but doesn't it get your goat up,when you get blame for taking stamps and not paying the correct amount, when someone else was to blame? This way,you replace the same number of stamps, with stamps just as good and pass it on. Nothing to pay except the postage cost to pass it on to the next person in line.
stampgal - Thanks for your interest. Once I get 50 posts,it will start. I'll start working on the first 100 stamps.
Thank you all - glad the sun has yet to set.
.
