And a slight variation on the theme:

All stamps of Bussahir State, in the Indian Himalayas, were supposed to be stamped with the RS monogram of the Director of the State Post Office, Raghunath Singh, before they were issued. This 4 Anna of 1895 shows a typically blotchy example:

However, occasionally the monogram was omitted

For no obvious reason, missing monograms seem to be relatively common on this stamp. (Gibbons prices the stamp with the blue monogram at £30, without any monogram at £50, and with this mauve overprint at £60. By way of contrast, the ½ Anna with monogram is priced at £24, and without at £1000.)

For collectors of the cat family on stamps, the feline in the central oval is thought to be a snow leopard.

Ok, since a surcharge is an overprint, but an overprint is not always a surcharge, I submit Good Queen Vic 1898 and with surcharge 1899.

A selection from Australia

The "N. W. Pacific Islands" overprint became necessary when Germany lost its colonies in the Pacific after the first world war.

The BCOF (British Commonwealth Occupation Force) stamps were used in Japan after it was occupied by allied troops. There is quite an extensive article on these stamps (in PDF form) on the following link:

http:\\antarctic-anare.info/bcof/bcofinfo.pdf
(Sorry, tried to make this link clickable but it didn't work. You will need to copy and paste it)

These last two overprints were made necessary by an increase in the price of a standard letter.

Argentina brought out many overprints for different government departments from 1911 to 1937. These are examined more closely in other threads such as the one below:

https://goscf.com/t/8551

Here is a small sample from one set:

This is the basic stamp. Note the dot under the c (for cent).

Here it is overprinted for the various departments.

The same stamp was also issued without a dot under the 'c' in the value block. It was also overprinted for the various departments. Note that some of the overprints were done in both a serif and sanserif font, as is shown by the M.A. overprint.

Nice stamps, fifia. I hope my cheepies (most were bought for 5 to 20 cents each) don't lower the tone of the post. Your stamps are of such nice quality.

Denmark

With these sets, a stamp the same as the original except that it has the same value as the overprint is included. I'd start another thread for this if I could word it in a space small enough to go into a topic heading. Any ideas? Anyone else want to start a topic using this concept?

The '20' overprints are of different thicknesses. Not sure if this is a documented variety or not.

Canada KGV 1930 2c deep red and with 1932 3c surcharge.

...ok, I have a confession to make. These two stamps aren't exactly the same.
The first stamp (left) is Die I while the stamp with the surcharge is Die II. I'm so ashamed, but my unsurcharged Die II has a nasty cancel. This one just looks nicer.

Philippines - under United States control.

One to add to your collection James.

The last one is a Japanese occupation overprint.

Note the alignment of the 'W' in 'COMMON-WEALTH' compared to the 'CO'
