Nothing much to look at, but does this cancel look odd to you?

I've thumbed through it many times but not until today did I notice that the month of "MAY" looks as if it was misspelled "MAV". Is it my imagination or did they make a mistake in the date?

It does indeed look like "MAV". At first I thought you may have been talking aboutthe 4A on the side but then I noticed the "V" just before I scrolled down to read the rest of your post.

The V/Y could just be how it's inked. I just find it unusual that the day is before the month. It's typical in other countries, but I cannot recall off hand a postmark in the U.S. with that order. I could be wrong and haven't looked at too many machine postmark of this time period.

I looked around on ebay and there are other 1967 era machine postmarks from the U.S. with the day before the month, but still not as common as the month first then day order.
