Well my pre new years resolution to stick to saving and purchasing only the early high priced canadian stamps I need is already out the window. I don't have these in hand as yet but I'm eager . I have a couple pomeroys already but really this is off my path. Main thing that actually made me buy this lot was the may 31 cancel on the rev being my birthday (not year). Knowing there are forgeries abound does anyone have any pointers on the Boyds and husseys to watch for? Anything else stand out and say wow or Yuk? These arrived today and havn't had much of a chance to revies other than I don't immediatly see wood fibers in the pomeroys as I did on another I have.(closer scan of backs of pomeroys show couple fibers so likely reprints) I can add pics of the others if needed.

Pretty well ignorant of most of what you have there, but a nice pot-pourri of paper, I like lots like that, some nice Cork cancels, and the playing card revs never seen before. Enjoy the journey through that lot.
I suppose one day my collection, will be hacked by scissors as stuff, and albums are broken up :( Glad I won't be around to see that.

Love those Pomeroys. I think it's a great lot. No one could fault you for going after these. Well done. |

I know the pomeroys are very "paper relevant" as in there were different paper used that makes ID tricky yet doable. The boyds I have no clue on them and not sure what the Spanish "Administracion" is doing in there. I'm a sucker for hodge podge lots like this especially when still on paper. I have the opinion or the hopes that there is a higher % of possibility for a rare item that got hinged many years ago and is waiting for me to discover. Plus I know some of the larger consignment type dealers don't put any time or effort into things like this and just sell for commision and could care less what is in the lot. Always hopeful but I can't see any dissapointment in this one no matter how it turns out. |

Nice stamps The Swarts for Mail One Cent is a reprint. Hussey S.M. Post are genuine (this is a complex issue as Hussey made some of these for sale to collectors and John Walter Scott may have made copies to sell to collectors as well. Which are which is related to what plate was used and I am not sure if it is agreed upon as to which are Hussey's printing and which are Scott's. None the less they were all valid for Hussey postage and are considered genuine stamps) The Hussey Bank and Insurance Special Message look good but a clearer picture is needed to be sure. Pomeroy's - if you can see wood fibers then they are reprints. See: http://www.siegelauctions.com/enc/c...yarticle.pdfBoyd's the orange on white is either a reprint or genuine - the plate it is printed from determines whether it is genuine (plate B) or a reprint (plate C). Post a better image and it will be possible to plate the stamp. The one cent black on blue looks good. Cannot tell if the black on red is genuine I would need a better image. Very nice locals |

Thank you 195 for the help - These are coming from overseas so may be a week or two before arriving but I will do quality scans and post for your assistance. All in all I think its a good lot and price was below 50 so even if a few reprints I'm OK with them. Now if just a couple are not the reprints could be super bonus but either way is all good. |

Nice lot Nitro. Love seeing the USPS Offically Sealed stamp in the lower right corner. It's interesting seeing the cancel on it because I have one that is mint and can be seen here https://goscf.com/t/21476 also love the red and blue playing card stamp in the upper left. |

Funny with lots like this especially when some still on page pcs. I'd almost rather have the rest of the page empty than wonder what else was on there. Probably why I only have 1 main album with pages and the rest is stock books and sheets. |

The Hussey Bank and Insurance Special Message, 2 cent words only is a reprint/fake. The shape of the 2 at the top, brake in lower left frame and brake in inner frame line above the 11 AM are the identifying features of the fake. One plate positions has similar breaks in the frame but the top of the 2 looks different.
The orange on white Boyd's stamp is a reprint - Printed from "plate C" position 17.
The black on blue one Boyd's cent is genuine.
The Pomeroy that I said could be reprints - I meant reprints/remainders it is not clear if they were unsold remainders or reprinted. Still can't be sure which paper they are printed on from the scan. They are for all practical purposes genuine.
Hussey S.M. Post stamps are genuine 10, 15 and 20 cent - Plate IV 25 cent - Plate V
Need a clear picture for the Boyd's Black on red stamp to be able to id.

I95 great Id's from the pics. I noticed a couple small wood fibers on the pomeroys - The previous one I had looked like it was thinly shaved plywood so definatly not to same extent but none the less with dollar values complete they are likely the reprints. All in all lot was far less than expected price wise. I put a bid out for the heck of it and was surprised I got them. |
