I have a few stamps that I believe would be far more attractive if I could somehow reduce the heavy cancellations on them. Seems as though this has been discussed on SCF in the past, but I can't find any archival comments on it. What techniques have any of you found to be effective to reduce cancellations? Are there any downsides to this - possible damage to the stamp, color changes to the paper, etc.? Thanks for your help.
There is a huge difference between cleaning a stamp and altering a stamp. If you want to alter a stamps cancellation by making it lighter, note it. Its your stamp, do whatever you want to do to it. If you intend to sell it afterword, that's dishonest.
A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed. (The exact & entire wording of the 2nd Amendment to the U.S. Constitution)
Nope, no intention of selling it. I will always be my first and last #245. It's kind of a smear cancellation and doesn't really add anything to the stamp. If it was a clean "hit", we wouldn't even be having this conversation, I'd just leave it alone. Thanks to all for your hints.
