Good afternoon all. I was wondering if maybe there may be a thread or link already around for what are the best methods of finding out the watermark on mint/gummed stamps. Or feel free to start a discussion here as I would love to know more on the subject. I do ok with the used stamps but have no clue on the mint ones. Any help or direction would be appreciated.

There are a couple of threads, but in general, watermark detecting fluid is the ticket, and won't harm the gum at all.

Thanks. So simple sometimes. I was always afraid to mess up the gum.

Or if you don't feel like spending $20 on 2 ounces of WM fluid, Lighter Fluid (Ronsonol) works just as well and is used by almost all of the leading experts.

Just remember, with all those fluid based solutions... they don't mix with flames.

Ok, they do mix well with flame, but produce a bad result

An additional word of caution on lighter fluid - some permanently leave the stamp smelling like lighter fluid. Always test it out on a garbage stamp or two first.
