I thought I would take a little time to say hello and tell you about my stamp interest and history. First of all I have collected stamps every day since I was about nine years old. I have never missed a day Monday through Saturday and if there was mail on Sunday I would be able to say every day of most of my life.

They say a stamp collector hordes stamps and to some extent that describes me. I have built up a large impressive amount of used United States stamps over many years. I have so many that I still have never gotten around to soaking the old fashion lick stamps.

I can't even guess have many extras I have and I keep collecting to this day. I do have a decent collection of UN stamps but the bulk of them are from the 1970's to the present.

I love commemoratives and my favorite years are anything older than 1970. There is just a style that you don't see in the modern stamps.

I am currently in the process of giving this all to my youngest daughter who is 12. She has made it clear though that while my album's are nice she wants her own. I am going to work right along side of her as I now start to build my UN collection back to the beginning. I may even move into Plate or just blocks.

I don't invest in the high value or rare stamps they are nice but my stamp collection is not an investment. My stamp collection is for plain old enjoyment.

While I don't necessarily collect foreign stamps that part of my collection is much larger. I do have a decent Canadian collection in that it is organized. However most of it while stored properly has never been looked at. It may be something I start to thin out if my daughter doesn't want it.

Well that is a little about me and what I have. I am now going to go to work on building my MNH collection and getting my daughter an opportunity to get hooked like I am.

Since by no means do I claim to be an expert I'm looking forward to posting more in the forums.

MKFARM, Welcome to the forum. I have been here for around 6 months now and let me tell you what, you will NOT find a nicer group of people to get help from, trade with, buy from, or just have some plain ol' good fashioned fun. I love these guys and gals and am sure they will grow on you too.

Hi and welcome! I've recently rekindled my interest in stamps. Just yesterday I got out the collection I hadn't looked at in years. I'm shocked at how many stamps I have!

When my 11 year old grandson was here this summer, we worked with some recent stamps that I've been saving from letters. It's such fun to do this with the kids - gets them away from TV, game-boy, etc. Have a good time with your daughter!

Hi Mkfarm,

Welcome to the SCF.

It's great that your Daughter shows an interest in stamps. My kids show no interest at all. At least you will have someone to pass your collection on to.
