Plate Blocks tend to have more value than just a block of 4 stamps or singles. I have a small collection of them. Some folks have entire collections of Plate Blocks and Zip Blocks

Values for mint plate blocks are listed in Scotts US Specialized catalogue.
Used plate blocks are interesting but not widely collected and no catalogue values are listed in Scott.

I just finished consolidating my Great Britain collection, and plate number makes a big difference
for many of the classics. For instance GB #64. I had one plate 12 ( normal) $80, one plate 10 $100,
but if I had plate 14, $29,000 ,,, I would have been much happier.

I have head about people "plating" a certain issue or stamp. I have never been that ambitious. I don't have the expertise I think I need to accomplish that. Perhaps some day

I collect used U.S. Air Mail stamps, with the plate numbers attached. These are called plate number singles. I save all the plate numbers abd Their respective postions.

As a guide, I use the Durland Plate Number Catalogue, available from the United States Stamp Society (the erstwhile Bureau Issues Association).
