This detail was just posted this morning on the USPS web site on the January 19, 2012 release of the Aloha Shirts Stamps.

What I find interesting is that:

1. The stamps are being printed in both sheet (300 million) and coil (1 billion) formats.

2. The stamps are going to have minor differences in size:

Quote:
Sheet Variety:
Image Area (w x h): 0.73 x 0.84 in./18.54 x 21.34 mm
Overall Size (w x h): 0.87 x 0.98 in./22.10 x 24.89 mm

Coil Variety:
Image Area (w x h): .72 x .84 in./18.29 x 21.34 mm
Overall Size (w x h): .880 x .96 in./22.35x 24.38 mm

3. The printing method is different (Gravure for sheet stamp; Offset for coil stamp).

4. Different printers are involved in the sheet (AVR) versus coil (SSP) varieties.

5. Only the coil variety (according to these specs) are going to have USPS microprinting.

6. The colors used in the printing process will be different:

Quote:
Sheet Variety Colors: Yellow, Magenta, Cyan, Black, 484 (Red), 174 (Brown), 716 (Orange)

Coil Variety Colors: Cyan, Magenta, Yellow, Black, PMS 174 (Brown), PMS 716 (Orange), Beige

6. Not sure about the plate numbers on the sheet variety, as this is exactly as taken from the USPS web site (which is obviously in error):

Quote:
Plate Numbers: "V" followed by five (7) single digits

Just picked up a sheetlet of the Aloha Shirts stamps today. The stamps are smaller than I had envisioned, approximately the same size as a traditional definitive stamp (such as Lady Liberty/Flag, Liberty Bell, etc.).

For those who haven't seen it yet, here's the complete sheet layout:

Curiously, the USPS Text and Logo on the back is a bit different from usual, as it contains the "Pony Express" logo, and the old-time USPS "square" logo in addition to the current one. I'm not exactly sure why they did it this way, as none of the other 2012 issues have used that logo sequence:

As this issue represents a strip of 5 face different stamps in four rows, I guess the same question occurs here as it did for the Birds of Prey stamps: Which strip of 5 does one collect for mounting in an album -- or does it really matter?

Finally, to clarify the error in the Technical Data listed by the USPS, the plate numbers for these stamps (in all four positions) is a "V" followed by seven "1"'s.
