Hello All,

Well I learned a lot from the last posting of the US 73 with the wonderful feedback and links to more information. Now I have another one for the experts here on this US 211.

This one seems to show either some color bleeding, or over inking on the lower left hand side. The star on this side is also missing some points: is this because of the extra inking, or was there an error on this particular plate?

I know there are examples of double transfers; cracked plates; and something about "steam press" issues (which I have no idea what that would even be) Something to do with Plate nos. 456, 457 and L542-546. I did some looking around on the net, but could not find anything on these other types. I probably was looking in the wrong place, or using the wrong search words/parameters.

Any and all information, or thoughts on this would be greatly appreciated, or some links to further information to help me gain some more knowledge on this issue.

I'm thinking I need to buy a Specialized Catalogue to put into the hoard. How informative are these? I've never seen one, but I am assuming they are full of great information not included in the regular catalogues.

Thank you in advance.

Got the scanner out finally.

Looks like a damaged plate, as the whole lower left corner has anomalies -- as you observed.

While the US Specialized does list some damaged plate varieties, it doesn't come close to listing them all. For that, you will need to consult other journals (such as the old BIA) and specialty books, or someone who specializes on that particular issue/series.

Thank you khj for looking, your opinion, and the great information for where to go looking for more information on this one. I like the idea of having a damaged plate variety. :) But does that now mean I have to buy another that doesn't have an issue to fill that space in the collection again? Oh, boy sounds like a reason to go shopping to me.
