I am real curious as to the feelings out there regarding artists "repurposing" stamps into their art.

Are you horrified when you see stamp earrings or cufflinks or even a collage incorporating stamps or covers?

....Ooorr, do ya just love seeing stamps in any shape or form?

opinions?

I think using stamps as a medium for art is pretty cool. I have an ash tray that has been decoupaged with used stamps and also have a small fireplace scene that was made using stamps. I think it is an interesting way to use what would otherwise be classified as undesierables by others.

I sort of like stamps being used as art when they're used tastefully. I've seen some fridge magnets, like small photo grames with a stamps inside - very nice. Then I've seen some open face clocks with several stamps pasted behind the hands - dreadfful!

The article via wt1 about the former butler doing big portraits made from stamps is very cool. I think the bottom line (a nod to Mr. Bottomley) is that good and interesting art is exactly that no matter the medium. And, if someone does a bad craft or art with stamps, we shudder and shiver. So, I laud the good crafter and artists for using stamps (hopefully just COMMON ones!) and the others, well my mom said if you don't have something nice to say about something, keep your mouth shut.
