I'm just getting back into the hobby after being inactive for several years. What fluids do you use now to detect watermarks? Someone suggested lighter fluid.

Lighter Fluid (Ronsonol) works just as good as the $30 per ounce Watermark fluid but only costs $1 per ounce.

Thanks for the reply.

Does lighter fluid leave an odor and if so how does one get rid of it?

It completely evaporates and leaves no residue and does not affect the gum. Many experts will even test $300 Stamps in Lighter fluid.

Have check for watermarks with lighter fluid on many expensive Aust KGVs over a lot of years and have had no trouble at all. Would be lost without it.

Some people say it causes cancer and some people hate the smell before it evaporates.

Lighter fluid is now being used to remove recent self adhesive stamps off paper by soaking the stamp in the stuff.

Always Happy Stamping. KGV
