I have three Inauguration Day Covers and FDC's that were signed by LBJ. The signatures I believe are genuine as they were done with with a fountain pen and not felt tip. They also have variations and are not alike. Can anyone give me an idea of their value?

If you Google "Lyndon B. Johnson autograph," you will find various autograph dealers with items for sale, at a wide range of prices. The two items I looked at, were a close match for your covers.

Do you remember the link. Most of what I saw were letters or books autographed by LBJ. No philatelic items

I for one would doubt that those are actually signed by LBJ himself but rather a copy of his signature. This would need to be taken to someone who specializes in signatures.

Found these.

stallzer - Those 2 ebay links are obviously not real since LBJ was dead when those covers were printed.

sfriedman's sigs could possibly be authentic - I also noticed that the signatures have variations, which means they are probably not copies (doesn't mean that someone elses didn't do them)

He will need to send them for certification..This costs 50 dollars for them to look (around that) and then I think another 25 or 50 if it turns out it's real and they need to certify it and number it

The 2 certified LBJ autographs I see under completed listings on ebay went for over $400 each.. Covers like these would probably end up in the same price range.... The philatelic connection is meaningless for the base value (except to the rare person that specializes in autographed covers).

Its worth the money to get it certified.

They are only examples of what is out there. My belief is that the ink used for the signatures is not from a pen but rather a stamp or an imprinted copy . The lines in the signature so not look to be from a hand held Pen and the color and hue are very close to the cancel. I repeat as I said earlier, they would need to be taken to someone that specializes in signatures.

Also, I'm not sure how many styles of signatures he used but it does not look the same as these.

Here is one from the right era.

So it appears that he might have used different signatures in his life.

You are likely right that it is not real, but who knows!. Looking at the first one, I can't tell if the tail end of the sig goes Over the perf, or, is going between the perfs and right behind the stamp.

If the ink was on the perf of the stamp, then that would make it either a real sig, or a stamped on signature.

The second one doesn't look stamped on though because it varies in "intensity" in the loops, which would be hard to mimic with a stamp.

William Weiss specializes in this sort of thing in his philatelic auctions, and I recommend him. Send him photocopies or 600dpi scans of the autographs and he will tell you real quick if they're genuine, i.e., if he offers to take them on consignment, they're good. If he doesn't, two possibilities; either they're not good sellers, or they're fakes.

See http://www.stampexpertizing.com/index.html - you do not necessarily need his expertizing services for this item, but it will get you started.
