Hello all, how do you store all your duplicates which are housed in glassine envelopes. I have been using a box suited for photos, but I was thinking of upgrading to Mystic's acid free boxes specially made to house glassines. Yes I know it doesn't say acid free or archival in the description on the website, but I called up Mystic and they assured me that it was completely acid free and archival. For ten bucks, it seems like a great deal and it would fit perfectly in my stamp cabinet. Also how would you store your glassines. Thanks.

I bought a plastic lid topped storage box at a craft store for the purpose. Stores 5 or 6 rows of about 200 glassines per row for about $10 (less, with craft store coupons that are available quite often).

Actually, I've used all kinds of boxes to store glassines in. You can use kids pencil boxes, or shoe boxes, or craft boxes, envelope boxes, etc. In fact, if you can get some of those cardboard box frames that soda or beer are sold in at grocery stores (they're usually free for the taking), they work great, too.

It's all a matter of how many glassines you are looking to store and what space you have to store them.

Hi Football,

This is what I use:

I have about 8 of them and the number 4 envelopes fit in them perfectly. I pick them up at thrift stores whenever I find them. The most I've paid for them is $3.00.

One day when I strike it rich, I'm going to buy an old library card catalog like this:

The prices on these are sky-high right now though. They seem to be very popular with scrapbookers and other crafty people.

Hi

I use #2 glassines. I have found that they fit in a business card file. The files can be found at most office supply stores and come in a variety of sizes.

Most boxes created for photograph storage are also archival quality for the same reasons that stamp collectors want archival quality. If your boxes suit your needs, I would just keep using them.

I store them in the box they come in. Cheap me, I use duct tape to go around the sides and use both cover and box so I end up with two containers for each box of glssines.

I prefer to store them full of stamps, but alas, that's not always possible.

One of the better values from Matilda's Cheap Supplies. Depending on size, a #3 glassine costs $5.25 for a 100 pack or $36.45 for a box of 1000:

Hi to all
I store my glassines in small tin boxes. I separate the countries by thick cardboard. And I put the name on the side of the box, such as British Commonwealth, (African colonies etc)
They are just the right size. I have slightly larger ones for the larger glassines.
I get these tins for nothing as they come in with jewellery in them where I work, and they just throw them out, and I am allowed to take as many as I want.
Regards

On a related question - how do you label the glassines - if at all?

Hi to all
If I label the glassines, I do it with a 2b or or a stabilo paper, glass plastic, or metal pencil.
This can easily be erased when I re-use the glassines.
