Evening friends. I'll use this topic as a preview on my collection and I'll post some questions if something bothers me. If this part of the forum is no place for such topic I apologize and please move the topic where should it belong. Also the whole thing is taking a lot of time and it's not going in the pace that I was planning, but hopefully in a year or two old stamps will find their new and cozy home Several times I was browsing through Scott 2008 to find this: No luck in my search, could someone please identify this with possible Scott number and value ? Thanks !

I think they are local tax stamps (for Barcelona) and therefore may not be listed in the Scott Catalog. I did stumble across this catalog listing for them (in Spanish) that may be of some help: |

Here is another snapshot from my collection. Buenos Aires now in focus: Also I need a word of advice. If mint stamp is hinged, should I leave as it is or soak it into the water to remove it ? Thanks ! |

Hi
If you soak it to remove the hinge, you will loose the gum on the back. As for hinges, if it hasn't been on the stamp for too many years, it should just peel off. But be very gentle If it doesn't seem to want to come off, leave it be.

Tomislav,
As a rule, stamps are worth considerably less without their gum. Sometimes it's easier to identify a stamp as mint simply by looking for original gum. With those brief comments, I will summarize by stating NEVER soak the gum off a stamp unless it's absolutely necessary (EG: two stamps are hopelessly stuck together or something of that nature).
Nice collection!

Thanks for the response.
Anyways, stamps were hinged for over 50 years and I was only able to peel off few of them. |

The Buenos Aires stamps are not genuine originals. Reprints and forgeries exist in quantity and numerous different types for these issues. |

No, the Spain ones are not listed in Scott. Have to wait for someone with the appropriate catalogue. |

Until now i've managed to move 1200 stamps but there is still 10 albums with around 8000 of stamps left to process. Going slow and sometimes I hate those old stamps with different but similar colors or common design types...really time consuming to find the proper stamp in Scott Meanwhile, this Sicily stamp seems to be worthless due to poor condition... Cheers ! |
