Grandma used to work for Elizabeth Arden, and I have quite a few covers with the New York address. This is the only one that had a bad day on the way to the office ...

Not sure if it was just a fire or a plane crash but crash mail is very highly collectible and often brings in good money at auctions. Great piece of History you have.

...the crash of a National Air Transport plane flying on Contract Air Mail route CAM 17 from Chicago to New York on 26th Apr 1930. The plane suffered engine failure so the pilot bailed out at 4000ft leaving the plane to crash. About half of the mail aboard the plane was salvaged but in poor condition...

According to the article:

Each item was marked with the two-line cachet in violet shown here.

Does your cover have the same markings? I don't see it on the front. I get the impression that every salvaged piece of mail should be marked. If your cover doesn't have the cachet, it might be a fake ...

Rileysan,

No, nothing on the back, but it is a pretty small piece overall, and quite damaged, so maybe the special cache was on the envelope it was eventually delivered in? I don't know, but still a fun piece of postage history.

I'll see if I have anything else to post.
