What printing flaws can you see?

Would you take this stamp off paper?

Would you send it to an expert to be taken off paper?

If you would send it to an expert who would it be?

I guess my first question is why would you send a Red 1d to an expert ? Perhaps I'm missing something ? Is the dot above the "S" in Postage something unique ? I would think the Q-Land cancel is not scarce ?

If there's any question about the paper/watermark, I can't see that soaking off the backing would do any harm. Most of the postmark falls on the stamp.

Michael (is it?) Drury is the acknowledged expert on the 1d Reds, AFAIK. He'd be the one to see this.

I see a possible printing flaw alongside the first "A" of "Australia" and a dot over the "S" of "Postage". Apart from that, I am also wondering if "Street" cancellations are a specialty like they are here in Canada?

The kangaroo looks a bit disgruntled.

No, there is a small white dot in front on the roos nose and a white smudge to the right of the rightmost one.

I would put this in my collection in the catergory of minor flaws (as I do) as I can see at least 7 minor flaws, its a nice stamp with a common George St, postmark. I'm sure all us KGV collectors has many examples of undocumented minor flaws, its interesting what you find. I like the inner frame dash to the "A", Flaw between ST, dot above S and the shading lines near the right tablet all very good and very collectable.

Thank you to all for being very patient with me.

But it does show how easy a true find can be missed. Or not?

I believe this stamps is a 2007 ACSC 71(2)ma

Colour flaw + rust flaw variety on an aniline scarlet.

A colour flaw mid right side, just outside the frame opposite emu's neck, a little square spot of red in the white area. Flaw 72(2)m cat value $20.

And has the rust flaw. Right value tablet, top at the right side. In between the value tablet and outer frame ACSC 71(2)ma Cat value $2,500

I believe the shade is aniline scarlet. The aniline bleeding through to the back of the stamp concerns me with my soaking ways. Top right on the paper looks like rust is on its way.

As tony has said that Mr Drury is the man and this is where this stamp is going.

I would very much like to hear any comments before I do.

Nice.

How do you ell it is aniline scarlet without seeing the colour bleeding through to the stamp's back? Is it you just have so many of the different colour shades now that you can compare and say, well, it's not any of these so by process of elimination it is . . .xxx?

It looks kind of electric pinkish to me but I am not familiar with shades of the KGVs like you are.

I googled and found this rather in depth article on Glebe Coins
http://www.glebecoins.net/kgv/The_K...v_1d_red.htm
that talks about using a UV lamp and the fluorescence in the eosin dyes of certain reds reacting to the UV light.

Hi Puzzler

I am not really that good with 1d red shade but the aniline's have a thick, deep, dark, looking shade to them.

It reminds me of the way some ladies put make-up on their faces to hide the wrinkles. What a way to describe it.

I see so many aniline's with a pink back on the stamp because of soaking. It makes me very nervous that I might destroy such a beautiful stamp as this one.

Hi Puzzler

Would you post that link on Australian KGV Stamps Explained for me please.

Really nice link Doug.

I have been thinking of doing a remake of the KGV's thread.
Just by put all the info into a more orderly manner.
It might help others a lot more with their KGVs.

Just a thought.

I think KGV it would be a great idea to reorganise the original thread. A long time ago when I moved to NZ I bought a KGV collection at the local stamp club auction at a bargain price that got me hooked - the original collector had identified shades identified them, I use these as a reference point - dangerous I know as its only one persons opinion possibility - I do get frustrated at times with the shades, as you know you need to work in excellent light. I like a sunny day in the lounge room (filtered light) today its cloudy here so it makes it impossible. The other issue as you know you must have quality copies to work with. Here is a copied of what was described as Anile compared with other stamps they do stick out like "dog bits" I guess the scan does not truely represent shades.
I Have 1994 ACSC book, I'm struggling to find your reference?

Done.

Could you please change the K.G.V. in that title to KGV without the periods? It would make it much easier to find when searching for that thread. Thanks.

Hi KGV Collector

I have a copy of the The ACSC and looking through it, and I know nothing about KGV stamps, but I would totally concur that you have a $2500.00 stamp.
I think I will have to re check all mine to see if I have any of these.
Regards
