These 2 stamps are from my dad's collection. The 50 cents is light bluish green (very light cyan) and the 1.00 is very light blue towards white. Are they fakes or what? Opinions are appreciated. Tks.

Finally manged to post both types of images. The brown coloured ones on the left are the actual issued in the year 1979. Need your opinion if the ones on the right are fakes, colour freaks or were the same stamps issued in different colours too.

Welcome to Stamp Collecting Forum!

In response to your question, the brown (tan) background stamps on the left are the correct stamps the way they were issued from the post office.

The stamps on the right would be considered damaged and of no philatelic value. The right ones have been either bleached, chemically altered during the soaking process, or possibly exposed to too much sunlight which has faded the colors significantly.

As wt1 wrote, these are damaged stamps... what you have there are what I'd call "color changelings."

The fact that ALL the colors have faded suggests they were chemically altered... different colors tend to fade at different rates in sunlight, which is another reason for fading.

My GUESS is that nobody was trying to defraud collectors by creating a "variety"; rather, some individual tried to bleach off the cancels in hopes of using the stamps again as "mint." Alas, the attempt failed.

Regards,
Peter
