Wt1 I was thinking the same thing about being a pre cancel, yet the line near the top perfs is throwing me off on that. The line looks too long for being a part of a name and I'm not sure such a line was on any pre cancels to separate them from stamp to stamp.
Was also thinking about some type of box cancel, but I am no expert on those either and would not know how far away the other border would be. To be near square there would be some ink on the edges of the bottom perfs.
Okay, said all that and was totally no help. I'm sure someone around here will let us both know on this one. Thanks for posting.
Thanks for your input. I was thinking exactly along those same lines as you. The line at the top does throw me off. I do know that some post-cancels did have wavy lines that made up the box, so it very well may be that's what we're looking at, but I'm just not sure.
Either way, it's a very common stamp, so I doubt it has much more than minimal catalog value, still it raises some interesting questions.
I, too, would be interested in hearing other opinions on it.
