Hi!

I was looking through Scott (2012 edition), and found that 3030b is listed as "pane of 15+label", whereas BK235 is listed as a booklet. When looking for 3030b on ebay and bidStart, I came up on sellers using 3030b and BK235 interchangeably. Am I missing something - I thought Scott does not double-list same objects? And if it's not double-listing, does anyone know of a clear-cut difference between those two?

Scott's extensive booklet pane listings correctly show that 3030b is the "pane of 15 + label".

Since these are "convertible booklets", BK235 is the identifier for a booklet of 15 stamps ($4.80 face value).

There is also a secondary listing of BK236 which is the identifier for a booklet containing two (2) panes of the 3030b (15 stamps + label each) for a total of 30 stamps ($9.60 face value).

Bottom line is that the stamps are the same as shown to be 3030b; the differences in the booklets simply identify the quantity of stamps included in the two booklet sizes.

I am also having trouble comprehending the 32c Love Angel differences. I am using the Scot 2011 catalog.

Scott says that the booklet cover for 3030a is BC115. This is incorrect. BC115 (in Scott) shows the non-denominated LOVE angel. If you check the reverse (the booklet cover side) of your 3030a pane, you will see that it shows the 32 cent denomination and the price of $6.40. Hence, Scott is incorrect.

If you have purchased a 3030b pane of 15 plus the label, the booklet cover side appears to have been trimmed. This indicates (to me) that there is NO specific booklet cover for 3030b. My 3030b is in a make shift booklet, and shows the $4.80 price (on the back). The catalog makes no mention of 3030b using a make shift booklet format. Scott does say that BK235 has BC126 (which is a make shift booklet cover).

The label on the 3030a pane is in the lower right corner. On my 3030b pane, the label is in the left column, and in the 6th position from the top of the pane.

Scott does show the booklet cover design for both BK235 and BK236 to be BC126. This booklet cover does show the 32 cent Love Angel. Scott does show 4 booklet cover varieties for BK235, and 6 varieties for BK236.

QUESTIONS
1. It appears to me, that 3030b and BK235 are the same item. Why would Scott do this?
2. To obtain a 3030b pane, do you just remove the pane from the make shift booklet? It does not make sense to remove the pane from the make shift booklet.
3. Since it does not make sense to remove the pane from the make shift booklet, does 3030b actually exist? (Scott makes no mention any booklet cover for the 3030b pane, but they do for 3030a). If Scott uses 30330b to construct a definition to be used for BK235, should Scott indicate in the catalog that 3030b is only found in BK235 and is not collectible?
4. Does anyone have any additional information?

3030b is NOT a trimmed down 3030a. It is sold in that format.

I have two BK235s.

Each of my BK235s show the $6.40 denomination and partial images and text on the back of the pane, even though the booklets sold for $4.80. The back of the make shift booklet cover shows the $4.80 price.

This is why I have come to the conclusion that the pane backing was trimmed. I know this is confusing. When I say trimmed, I do not mean that someone sat down and trimmed them with a paper cutter. Maybe they were purposely manufactured with the same backing paper for 3030a, and then they were cut in production. The result is that the 3030b backing does not include all of the information that is seen on the back of 3030a. It is truncated.

If 3030b is a valid collectible variety, why does Scott not list a booklet cover? Scott could say that the backing for 3030b was made from the 3030a backing (assuming that it is true).

Does anyone have a booklet cover image of 3030b that was specifically made for 3030b that you could post?

I would really be interested in seeing it.

Chas BK235 refers to the entire booklet (cover plus pane of 15 stamps). 3030b refers only to the pane of 15. The 3030b's were cut from web stock that was originally designed for the 3030a panes of 20 (7 high by 3 wide including one lable). Since the panes of 15 are 8 high by 2 wide (including one label), the side with the "cover" printing of course ends up getting miscut on these panes of 15. The lable can be found in four different locations on the panes of 15 (positions 11, 12, 13 or 14) depending on where in the web they are cut from (and each of those will show a different miscut of the cover printing). The actual blue window covers for all of these makeshift booklets is BC126. The listing for BK235 (and for BK236) does indeed indicate that they contain 3030b. While you may not feel that it makessense to remove a 3030b from a BK235, that is exactly how one obtains such a booklet pane (and how one obtains any other booklet pane).
