Strange Imperial Japanese Stamp.

Here I have posted two pictures of imperial japanese stamps both listed only as red in color in the stanley gibbons catalogue.
The 4 sen does seem to be red but the 20 sen seems to be dark mauve I think I would be right to believe that any kind of soaking would only turn a stamp lighter in color and not darker. Please check it out the catalouge numbers under japan is stamp 37 SG-178 and SG-172.
