Hi everyone. My first post. How can one distinguise the different die types (I, II, III, etc) on some embossed envelopes? I've not been able to see a difference. Thanks a bunch in advance for your help.

Hi Len - Welcome. You'll need a U.S. Scott Specialized Catalogue for full details. Each envelope type will explain the detailed die type differences. (I'm without catalogue at this moment but it will be something like "forehead extends" or "knot in hair is defined" or "horizontal line is on top of vertical" etc. - I just made up all those)

And, of course, a high magnification loop or even a flatbed scanner will help in spotting the small differences.

Kurt

Here's an ID guide for 2 cent envelopes that might help. I found this in few seconds by searching on "US cut envelope identifier". There might be more/better sites.
